Yemen’s Houthis Claim to have Fired Missiles at Saudi Arabia
According to several sources, one of which was a tweet from Houthis’ Masirah TV, Yemen's Houthi rebels had fired two missiles at Saudi Arabia's capital in an alleged attempt to target the country’s defense ministry. This particular incident along with the recent increase in Houthi attacks could most certainly escalate tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The Saudi armed forces did not yet confirm the attacks, but according to state media; The two rockets were shot down above Riyadh and the southern cities of Jizan and Najran before any major damage could be dealt.
As mentioned, Yemen’s Houthi rebels have increased their attacks as of recent; actions that could amplify tension between Saudi Arabia, which backs the Yemeni government, and Iran, which backs the Houthi rebels.
The Houthis have stated that the missile attacks on Saudi Arabia were made in retaliation for air raids on Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition in the past. The kingdom's main ally is the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but the coalition also includes eight other mostly Sunni Arab states, that may lead to increased tension worldwide, and not simply centred in the middle-east.
