The fires in Greece are not extinguished. On Monday morning, fire broke out in the south of the island of Euboea, the services said. According to the Greek agency ANA, the fire began to move towards the seaside resort of Marmari.

46 firefighters, 20 vehicles, two helicopters and three fire-fighting planes are involved in extinguishing a fire in the south of Euboea, the Greek services said.

According to the Greek agency ANA, the fire began to move towards the seaside resort of Marmari. The services are ready to evacuate people by sea if necessary.

Two weeks earlier, a fire had severely hit the north of the island. And since the beginning of July, 116,000 hectares of forest have burned in fires in Greece, the AFP agency reminds.

Among others, firefighters from Poland, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine participated in extinguishing intense fires in Greece.

This summer, fires hit many countries in the Mediterranean region. Apart from Greece, services in Turkey, Algeria, France and Spain, among others, fought or are still fighting blazes. Huge wildfires were also experienced in the west of the United States and the north of Siberia in Russia.

As reported by the Associated Press (AP) agency, scientists around the world are warning that the more frequent forest fires are the result of climate change, which is exacerbated by human activities, including combustion of fossil fuels.
