Russia declares its readiness to evacuate Afghans to countries that will be ready to receive them. This was announced by the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow, Maria Zakharova. She also said that "the Taliban's takeover of power is a reality that the international community must take into account."
"We are ready to provide Russian civil aviation services to ensure the flight of any number of Afghan citizens, including women and children, to any countries that show interest in accepting them," Maria Zakharova, quoted by RIA Novosti, said at a press conference on Thursday, in a decision motivated by humanitarian reasons.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it is not about the evacuation of the staff of the Russian embassy or Russian citizens in Afghanistan, only flights for people who want to leave the country are planned. It said that the Taliban "gave Russia a security guarantee in organizing charter flights for people wishing to leave Afghanistan."
Zakharova also said that the Taliban's takeover of power in Afghanistan is a reality that the international community must take into account. Responsibility for the events in Afghanistan rests with former president Ashraf Ghani, she said.
“The President Ghani who left the country is undoubtedly responsible for what happened. Over the past three years, he has had every means possible to ensure the success of the peace process in Afghanistan and to support the progressive formation of a government with representatives of all the political forces in the country. However, this opportunity was wasted,” said the representative of diplomacy.
