Initially, six villages and two monasteries in the Geraneia Mountains were evacuated. On Thursday, residents of another village were called to evacuate as a fire, fuelled by a strong wind, spread eastward and crossed the border with Attica, the region where Athens is located.

According to Reuters news, the clouds of smoke were visible on Thursday morning from many parts of the capital.

No casualties have been recorded.
