Greek authorities ordered evacuations after forests began to burn in the area from Corinth to western Attica. Smoke from the fire on Thursday was visible from many parts of the country's capital.
The fire broke out on Wednesday evening in a small coastal town on the Gulf of Corinth, about 90 kilometers from the country's capital, Athens.
The fire brigade informed that 62 fire engines with over 180 firefighters, 17 planes and three helicopters were deployed to fight the fire.

Initially, six villages and two monasteries in the Geraneia Mountains were evacuated. On Thursday, residents of another village were called to evacuate as a fire, fuelled by a strong wind, spread eastward and crossed the border with Attica, the region where Athens is located.
