I expect Israel and the Palestinian side to reach a ceasefire in a day or two, a high-ranking Hamas official was quoted by Reuters said Wednesday. According to Egyptian sources, details are still being negotiated and the deal is kept secret.

"I think the ongoing ceasefire efforts will be successful," Hamas senior political official Moussa Abu Marzouk said in an interview with Lebanese TV al-Mayadeen. He added that "the ceasefire will be reached within a day or two and the ceasefire will be based on mutual agreement," he added.

US President Joe Biden in Wednesday's conversation with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed the expectation that on Wednesday there will be a "serious de-escalation" in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the White House informed.

The Reuters Agency reports, citing a source in Egyptian security forces, that both sides in the conflict generally agreed to a ceasefire after mediated talks, although details are still being negotiated and the deal is kept secret. Moreover, it is publicly denied in order not to end the agreement.

Qatar-based Saudi Arabia's Al-Jazeera station reported that the UN envoy for Middle East Peace Tor Wennesland was meeting in Qatar with Hamas chief Ismail Haniye.

However, the fighting that broke out 11 days ago continues.

Israel is also being attacked from Lebanon. Four rockets were launched into Israel's territory from northern Lebanon on Wednesday, the Israeli army said. There are no reports of casualties or damage. Israel responded with fire from positions in southern Lebanon from which missiles were fired.

According to the Israeli Armed Forces, one rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defence system, one landed in an open field without harming anyone, and two fell into the sea. Sirens warning of the attack wailed in cities in the north of Israel, including Akka, Schenyaram and around Haifa.

In response, the Israeli military launched artillery shelling in the area from which the rockets were launched in southern Lebanon. This is the third rocket attack launched from Lebanon on Israel since the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip intensified on April 10.

Anonymous representatives of the Lebanese security services informed news agencies about the launch of a dozen or so rockets at Israel. They added that the shelling was carried out from one of the villages in southern Lebanon, and that four rockets failed to reach Israel after being fired.

No organization has admitted to Wednesday's attack, as was the case with previous bombings from Lebanon (aimed at Israel), according to the AP agency. It is believed that the responsibility for them is rather Palestinian groups in Lebanon, rather than the radical organization Hezbollah operating in that country, reported Israeli television Channel 12, relying on sources in the security forces.

On Wednesday night, Israel continued air strikes on the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian militants continued to rocket Israel from the enclave.

After midnight, Israel carried out several raids, two of which destroyed homes, reports the Reuters agency. Local doctors said that four people were injured in an air attack on the city of Khan Junus in the south of the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli military also said it bombed a weapons warehouse at the home of a Hamas member in the city of Gaza early on Thursday morning. The "military infrastructure on the premises" of other Hamas commanders was also attacked, it added.

On Thursday morning, anti-missile sirens sounded in the city of Beer-sheba in the south of Israel and in the Israeli bordering areas of the Gaza Strip. There are no reports of casualties or damage.

Since the start of the clashes on May 10, Israeli bombings of the Gaza Strip have killed 228 people, including dozens of children, and more than 1,500 have been injured, Palestinian authorities report. According to Israel, the majority of Palestinian victims are Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists. 12 people, including two children, were killed in rocket attacks on Israel. Due to the air raids, around 58,000 Palestinians had to leave their homes.
