Russian Naval Forces Gathering to Aid Syrian President

Russia has reportedly deployed it’s largest amount of naval forces since it entered the Syrian conflict back in 2015, according to a Russian newspaper last Tuesday. And the paper is very much correct; the country has deployed several frigates over to the Mediterranean through the Bosporus, as an analysis of shipping traffic has also shown.

There are multiple pictures gained from Reuters on Saturday of Admiral Grigorovich and Admiral Essen frigates sailing through Istanbul’s Bosporus towards the Mediterranean, Russia defending their own reinforcement by accusing the United States of slowly building up its own forces in the Middle East as a preparation for their own possible strike on Syrian government forces.

With Syrian President and Russian ally Bashar al-Assad thought to be considering an assault on Syria’s supposed remaining rebel hideaway in Idlib, it is presumable that the frigates have come as reinforcements for the Syrian President.

According to Izvestia Newspaper, the Russian force includes 10 vessels, the majority of which are armed with long-range Kalibr cruise missiles, along with two submarines that had also been deployed. Izvestia had, in addition, been stating that there will certainly be more on the way.
