Iran Revolutionary Guards swear vengeance on parade attackers

On Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had made a vow of retribution, one to be “deadly and unforgettable”, for the 25 deaths, an included 12 being their comrades, that had occurred as a cause of a shooting attack on a military parade on Saturday. Tehran had also made accusations against Gulf Arab states, stating they had been backing the criminal gunmen.

Before leaving Tehran, the President Hassan Rouhani stated that “The Persian Gulf states are providing monetary, military and political support for these groups,” in reference to the attackers. Iranian officials had also been making accusations, mainly focused on the United States and Gulf Kingdoms as well.

The shooting had occurred in the South-Western city of Ahvaz during an annual parade that marked the start of the Islamic Republic’s war with Iraq. The attack led to the Iran Revolutionary Guards speaking a statement; “Considering the Guards’ full knowledge about the centres of deployment of the criminal terrorists’ leaders, they will face a deadly and unforgettable vengeance in the near future.” Due to the fact that the four attackers were killed during the event, little can be found out about who is truly responsible.

Before President Donald Trump’s presidency, along with his decision to pull out of the nuclear deal and bring back the sanctions on Tehran, Rouhani had concocted the Iran nuclear deal of 2015, along with world powers that equally shepherded a cautious agreement with Washington and the US.

Analysts said that the attack would give the Guards much political influence in their cause, as they do not approve of the Rouhani’s desire of creating another nuclear deal with the West. The Guards are rooted in the regional superpowers, many supporting opposing sides of the Yemen and Syrian civil wars, in terms of defending Iranian welfares and interests.

Iran has, in this regard, called for the regional states to help secure the oil-producing region’s safety and independence to carry on, without the likely impending intrusion of the United States along with a possibility of other Western nations.

Responsibility for the attack has been taken, however, by an Iranian ethnic Arab opposition movement called the Ahvaz National Resistance. They claimed responsibility for the attack, and the 70 people that were injured during. The group is one that seeks a separate state in the Khuzestan province; a province rich and vast in oil. Alongside them, Islamic State Militants had also claimed responsibility for the attack, though neither groups provided any evidence.

The Gulf Arab state of Qatar, in oppositions with the US allies Saudi Arabia and the UAE, were among the first to condemn the assault on the military parade, expressing their sorrows at the tragedy.
