Khashoggi’s Murderers Sought for Death Penalty

After the renowned murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the five men suspected of being responsible for the murder are sought after for a death penalty by the country’s public prosecutor. With this entire cases by this point recognised as Saudi Arabia’s greatest crisis in years, many are eager to have those responsible be apprehended and dealt with.

Having been well recognised as a critic of Saudi policies, as well as an insider of the Saudi royals, Khashoggi is thought to have been killed by a lethal injection after a session of torturous beatings on October 2nd in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The lethal injection execution was confirmed on Thursday by the Saudi deputy public prosecutor Shalaan al-Shalaan, whilst speaking to reporters.

Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin was in agreement with the prospect of immediate justice, stating that the accused officials had “targeted and brutally killed a journalist who resided and worked in the United States” and also added that they “must face consequences for their actions”.

He went on to say that “The United States continues to diligently work to ascertain all of the facts and will hold accountable each of those we find responsible in order to achieve justice for Khashoggi’s fiancée, children, and the family he leaves behind.”

To many people’s horror, the prosecutor al-Shalaan also confirmed that Khashoggi’s body had been dismembered, and given away to a, as he called it; “local co-operator”, as a means of having it removed from the building. The locations of his remains are still unknown, but al-Shalaan also stated that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was unaware of the murderous plot.

According to al-Shalaan, the murder had occurred as a result of a failure in “negotiations” between Khashoggi and the Saudi murderers, where the particular negotiations revolved around having Khashoggi being allowed to once again return to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia; his place of birth. The decision to kill him is by all accounts a radical and unprecedented one.

Many of the world’s political leaders are stepping up with their own opinions, including Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan, who believes that the murder was indeed a plot, a planned execution that had most likely been ordered by the highest level of Saudi leadership, though he’s expressed doubts that they were the orders of King Salman.

Al-Shalaan, despite having given no names as of yet, made mention of the public prosecutor calling for the death sentences of the five murderers, having been “charged with ordering and committing the crime, and for the appropriate sentences for the other indicted individuals,” adding further that a travel ban had been imposed on Saud al-Qahtani, a top aide for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who’d been relieved from the Saudi royal court on Saturday.
