The Russian army organising exercises in the Crimea during the Covid-19 pandemic
Russia organized military exercises in the occupied Crimea. Over 1,500 soldiers took part in them. Assault troops (Shock Troops) tested the tactic of "destroying a potential enemy."
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the exercises took place at the Crimean Opuk training ground (in the eastern part of the peninsula). Over 1,500 soldiers of ‘landing’ and ‘assault’ troops, over 300 units of military equipment, 15 transport aircrafts Il-76, as well as landing ships of the Black Sea Fleet participated in them.
"According to the exercise plan, soldiers, after landing on a section of the unarmed (in infrastructure - ed.) Coast, quickly attacked the defending enemy and took a favorable position," reported the Russian ministry.
A Ukrainian news portals noted that Russia organized exercises in the annexed Crimea during the Covid-19 epidemic.
After the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Russia incorporated the peninsula into the Southern Military District which includes regions of the Russian Federation bordering Ukraine and entities of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus.
