Boat accident in the Mediterranean, at least 20 migrants died

Tunisian services reported on Tuesday that at least 20 of more than 50 migrants from Africa died as a result of the sinking of a boat.

The bodies of 20 migrants whose boat sank in the Mediterranean Sea were found on the coast of the Tunisian region of Safakis, the authorities said on Tuesday. A group of 53 migrants sailed over the weekend trying to reach Italy. It was added that the coastguard and the army continued to search for the remaining people who were on the boat.

In recent years, there have been several similar events - in May 2019, after the sinking of a boat off the Tunisian coast, 50 people were killed. In June 2018, due to the sinking of a boat with about 180 migrants off the south-eastern coast of Tunisia, the country's interior minister resigned.
